EWMES 2026

European Winter Meeting of the Econometric Society

EWMES 2026

Hosted by the University of Warsaw

Registration opens September 30, 2026

Too often, great events like EWMES bypass Central and Eastern Europe altogether. Bringing EWMES to Poland is more than a change of scenery – it is a step toward improving the environment for economic research in our country.

Yes, it is December, and yes, the weather will likely be… character-building. But what we lack in sunshine, we make up for in festive charm. Bring a coat, and we’ll bring the brilliance – and let the ideas glow, even if the skies don’t.

Warsaw

Panorama of Warsaw seen from the Vistula river

Warsaw is the capital of Poland – a metropolitan area of nearly 3 million people, with clubs, restaurants, and more than 300 thousand students. Frequently likened to a phoenix, it has risen from the ashes of complete oblivion during World War II; its entirely reconstructed Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The venue is based in the city centre, within walking distance of the Old Town and equidistant to the Central Train Station.

Getting here

Warsaw has two international airports: Okęcie/Chopin (WAW), essentially in the city, and Modlin (WMI). It takes about 1.5–2.5 hours to reach Warsaw from most capitals of continental Europe; there are direct rail connections to Berlin, Prague and Vienna.

Staying

December is not a high season in Warsaw. City-centre three-star hotels range between 80 and 120 euro per night; a standard four-star rate is typically below 150 euro; average Airbnb prices are below 40 euro. The Local Conference Organizer will arrange special discounted hotel rates for the conference delegates.
